Beijing Bridge League


Established on 1 May 1979,the Beijing Bridge League (BBL) is a sport organization established by the Beijing Municipal Sports Bureau, registered at Beijing Bureau of Civil Affairs, and administered by the Beijing General Association of Sports. The objectives of the BBL are, by abiding by the Constitutions, state policy, laws, rules and regulations and respecting social moral standards, to unite Beijing’s bridge enthusiasts in bridge-related training and competitions, with the aim to enrich people’s spare-time life, deepen friendship among bridge players from different provinces, municipalities in China and other countries, and promote the sport of bridge and upgrade its technical level in Beijing.

The first President of the BBL was Mr. LU Yu, former Vice Mayor of Beijing and the current President of the BBL is Mr. WAN Siquan, Vice Chairman of the Beijing Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of the Proprietor Committee of the National Grand Threatre.

The BBL boasts a registered membership of over 4,600, many of whom are bridge grandmasters. The BBL has two A-class clubs sponsored by the Capital Group and HuaYuan Group respectively, and has the Beijing Men’s, Women’s and Youth Teams sponsored by the China National Petroleum Corporation, HuaYuan Group and Yin Di Group respectively.? The above three Beijing teams are strong powers in the Chinese bridge circles and have won dozens of titles in national championships.

The Beijing Bridge Teams have won 4 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals in the past three All-China Games and have been awarded by the Beijing Municipal Sports Bureau for their good performance. In the past three decades, the Beijing Bridge Teams have recommended to the Chinese National Bridge Team dozens of players who have contributed to the excellent performance of the Chinese National Bridge Team in international competitions.

Committed in developing mass bridge activities, the BBL has been active in organizing and hosting various competitions such as the Spring Bridge Competition, the Grade Bridge Competition and the Autumn Bridge Competition, providing high-quality, convenient and efficient services for the bridge enthusiasts in the city.

The BBL has successfully hosted the Beijing International Bridge Invitational Tournament, the Beijing-Tianjin-Shanghai Bridge Invitational Tournament, the Cross-Straits Bridge Invitational Tournament, the Bridge Competition of 7th Beijing Workers Games, and the Bridge Competition for the Departments of the Beijing Municipal Government, greatly contributing to promoting mutual exchanges and deepening the friendship between bridge players at home and abroad and across the Taiwan Straits. Over the past two decades or more, the BBL has been providing daily services and assistance to the aged bridge enthusiasts. As a result, the BBL activities attract nearly 5,000 participants annually. More and more elder people are enjoying their remaining years by playing bridge and exchanging experience with their peers.

With the support of all walks of life in the society and by making their own efforts, the BBL now has in place their own offices, professional staffs and relevant entities and a complete set of rules and regulations, making its long-term, effective and positive contributions to the development of bridge in Beijing and the country as a whole.
